This adapter comes with an OBD-II type
connector which plugs right in to most 1994 and newer VW's and
1996 and newer Audis. Most 1990-1995 Audis and
1990-1993 VW's have the "2x2"
data link connector, click here for more info.
Extending this Interface:
The cables on this interface
have a total length of about 6 feet -- just right for
most laptops. If you want to use this interface
with a desktop PC, you should get an RJ45 Coupler (available
as a $5 option on our order form) and an ordinary CAT5 Ethernet
Patch Cord in whatever length you need up to 100'
(30m). Make sure the Patch Cord has all 8
conductors and is wired "Straight
Through". A "Cross-Over" type
cable is not acceptable and may damage your
interface. See the this
FAQ entry. Always extend the car-side of this
interface. We do not recommend or support extending the
PC side of this interface.
Known Issues:
Some Acer and Compaq Presario Laptops have
"lame" serial ports which do not come close to
meeting the RS-232 spec and will not work properly with this adapter.
If you have an Acer or Presario, you should use a
TWIN-COM, TWIN-USB
and HEX-COM .
A few models of cars have extremely
tight trim around the OBD-II connector. The ISO-COM uses
an OBD-II connector that is sometimes difficult to fit easily
into the following cars:
Note:
We do not sell any interface
adapters as a
"Stand-Alone" products. We only sell them with
